  1. Allow me to create my own server config defaults

I have wished for a way to create my own defaults for settings that automatically get propagated to new servers. This would include config options available in:

    • Server Management > Settings and Packages (especially Basic, Advanced, and Packages)
    • Application Management > Applications Settings (especially General and PHP FPM config)

It would save time to not have to go manually change all the config on each server but have it automatically create the server with my preferred settings.

    Thanks!

  3. Allow people to increase the number of inode available to them by using the disk space they should already have.

for the sake of example, currently I have access to a 160GB disk space server and i am only using 22 GB of it. i can't add more files because i seem to be out of inode space. Inodes are made from disk space being used as a table to map out other files. Why can't this table be increased using the space i already have access to so i can take advantage of all my disk space.

  5. Show maintanance page while the server upgrade is in process

The server upgrade takes somewhere between 10-15 minutes and during the upgrade, visitors can't access the website. They see a 503 error.

I think Cloudways should show a maintenance page while the server upgrade is in the process.

  6. Allow NGINX to work in all but specified folders

I had crushed in a user case which required to manage file permissions via .htaccess RewriteRules, with files physically available inside web-visible folders instead of logic-protected folders, so I had been forced to have CloudWays disable NGINX for my server.

Instead, it would be nice to have a panel where to configure specific folders with Apache-based file serve, instead of NGINX-based.

  7. Server speed

tools.pingdom.com lets me see the pageload speed of my site from various countries. I'd like to be able to compare servers before buying.

e.g. I tried Vultr in Singapore - very slow loading into Australia. Moved to Linode in Freemont - 2x the speed for the same site.

Took 2 days of setup and testing and trial accounts to work that out - perhaps there is an even faster server? I can't try them all.

Just put a 1mb web page on each server. Publish the url. Now I can compare at GTMetrix or Pingdom to choose the best server…

  8. Officially support running nodejs as an app user.

I've chatted with support and they told me you must run NPM and nodejs as a master user. This requirement makes per-app security impossible.

  9. Support npm install --global

Right now, it throws a permission error. This is helpful for tools like gulp.

  11. Improve cloning process

On cloning an application, optionally allow me to specify the target url and a checkbox to specify that I want an SSL certificate installed.

This would greatly help improve the process to get that cloned server up and running much quicker.

    Thanks!

  12. Install libsodium (a.k.a. sodium) on all servers by default

libsodium (a.k.a. sodium) is a PHP PECL library for secure encryption in PHP. As of PHP 7.2, libsodium will be included as a core library in PHP.

It would be helpful for those of us building secure PHP applications to have access to this library now instead of waiting for PHP 7.2. This will enable us to use encryption methods that will be good for many years to come instead of being deprecated as mcrypt is now.

Note that there is a polyfill that can be used until PHP 7.2 if libsodium isn't installed, but it is not nearly as…

  13. Load Data Local Infile enabled for MySQL

I run an e-commerce site that imports data feeds from our suppliers. However our import addon can't work as it requires Load Data Local Infile enabled for MySQL.

  15. Force Varnish cache when HTTP Authentication is enabled

For development reasons we protect our application with HTTP AUTH

After user has been authenticated varnish is not caching the request because of the authorization header always being sent (see default.vcl).

Add "unset req.http.Authorization" after auth check on vcl_recv to force caching.

  16. Improve the Database Selected Tables Window Layout in Staging Management

The staging management window that allows for the selection of which database tables to push or pull between staging and live is completely useless in it's current format of a horizontal list with truncated table names. The table list should be alphabetically columnar with the full table name in view to make for easy selection.

  17. During Vertical Scaling down time display a landing page for customers

During Vertical Scaling when the website goes down it would be great to see cloudways display a page like "Back soon currently making this site more awesome" or something to comunicate that the website will be back up after the scaling as no server side extension or feature can run for most of the upgrade it just shows as no responce from server.

  18. Switch to disable or enable NGINX for an app

Currently users cannot modify the NGINX configuration. Thus we had to ask for support to disable NGINX on certain directories in order to build an intranet site with WordPress. Otherwise NGINX would have served protected media files despite Apache's .htaccess rules.

Perhaps you could add a simple switch to the Cloudways admin UI to disable or enable NGINX for an app, the same way you can already disable/enable Varnish cache? That would have solved the problem in our case.

There is also a related suggestion to allow disabling NGINX for a specified directory, which would also have solved our problem:

  19. CDN for Staging Environment

Why we can't have CDN URL for the staging environment?

If you dont support CDN for the staging site how can I test the code & optimize speed before making it live?

All leading managed WP hosting companies have CDN support for staging.

  20. Allow to define bash aliases for app user

The master user can define bash aliases in .bash_aliases file, but an app user can't do the same, there is no way to define aliases and load them automatically on ssh login
Would be great to be able to define such bash aliases file for app user!
